Punta Gorda "Holiday Regatta" Report
Perkins keeps winning streak going

The second regatta of the Florida EC 12, 2015-2016 series was held at Sun Coast Model Sailing Club’s home venue under cloudy sky’s and the promise of rain and wind. Other than a brief spritz, the rain didn’t happen, but for most skippers it was a “B” rig regatta. A few were waiting for “C” rig conditions to develop as RD, Art Hawes, established that safe sailing conditions would be based on the safe handling of “C” rigs. The wind got close a couple of times, but never quite enough for any “C” rig experiments.

The over all flavor of the regatta was Alan Perkins’ 70th birthday on Sunday. This did not deter him from a dominating performance in walking away with the first place trophy to establish a solid lead in this seasons Florida EC 12 Association series.

The big surprise was the appearance of Alan’s big brother Mike and sister-in-law Jackie, all the way from England for a wonderful, tearful reunion at their motel here in Punta Gorda. The more formal party with cake and singing took place at Phil’s 41 restaurant.
