St. Petersburg
Regatta Report
by Brenda Pardee
St. Pete, again, was a historical event. It was first time everyone hosting
a regatta was from out-of-town. However, just as last year, Mother Nature
dictated a course where the windward mark was at the outer limits of
a sailor’s ability to see. Despite that obstacle and the unforgiving
duck feeder, everyone agreed that Jim Pardee and Baron Bremer set a challenging
and competitive course. In addition to the outstanding weather leg, the
smaller fleet size and the fleet shuffle that 4 up and 4 down provided
made for a fun weekend for all who participated.
Contrary to the name “March Madness” (a marketing device
explained the RD) each skipper sailed 16 races keeping in mind the Corinthian
Spirit. After crowning Alan Perkins with 1st, Bob Greer 2nd, Jon Luscomb
3rd , John Bottensek 4th , and Fred Pfeil Ancient Mariner, Brenda Pardee
was so impressed with the fleets’ “good will” she declared, “Drinks
on me down in Orlando!”
