Palm Beach Gardens 2010 Seeding List

Seeding Heats 3 and 4

These seeding heat assignments were made by simply listing all the skippers entered for the regatta from top to bottom based on the average finishing position from their last three regattas that counted and in which the skipper completed the event on the water. In other words, season throwouts or regattas where a skipper may have broken down and gone home early are not counted in their average. The idea here is to seed skippers based on performance.

Once the list is set, we simply count down the list 1-2, 1-2, 1-2 and so on. All the 1s go in Seeding Heats 1 and 2. All the 2s go in Seeding Heats 3 and 4. For those skippers with no recent performance history to look at, simply go at the bottom of the list in no particluar order.

There are two reasons for doing this. First is to make the two seeding fleets as evenly matched as possible with an even mix of skill levels in each. Secondly, by setting the fleets ahead of time, the RD and his staff can get the racing started as quickly as possible.

For those of you not familiar with the Promotion and Relgation system, this is only a starting point. You will sail two seeding heats in the morning on Saturday. The total of your two heats will be used to place you in either A-fleet or B-fleet to start the regular races. Your worst score of the two seeding heats will be disgarded from your overall score.

After the seeding heats have been sailed, there will be a brief time out while the race staff adds up the scores and then announces which skippers will start in B-fleet for the first regular race of the day. Then racing continues with the P&R format with the top 4 finishers in B-fleet moving up to A-fleet for the next heat. A-fleet will then sail and the bottom 4 finishers will move down to B-flee to start the next racet. It take one B-fleet heat and one A-fleet heat to make one RACE.
