March Club Series Report In a solid B-rig day at the lake, Baron started strong with 3 bullets in the first 4 heats He added 3 more bullets to his score, but he also added a bunch of 4ths which allowed John Bottensek and Joe Walter to hang in close. John and Joe had 25 points each after the throw out and get this, they each had the same number of firsts, the same number of 2nds, 3rds, and even 4ths. So the throwouts had to be counted back in to break the tie. Joe had a 5th place to John's 4th and so the tie breaker went to John. Tom Germer sailed well in the big breeze and posted the most number of 3rd place finishes in 7 out of the 12 heats, including 6 in a row. That kind of performance would put you at the top of the leader in most regattas. Tom Phillips and Tony Rieck both suffered equipment troubles, otherwise their acores would have been a lot better. We all got some good practice with the B-rigs except for John B, who was trying out his new C-rig. There was no difference in boat speed, both up wind and down, and john was able to let the rig do the work up wind, while the rest of us had to work hard to keep our B-rigs under control. While we were all working our jib trims, John B was just letting the C-rig drive smoothly on the beat. The EC-12 is over powered most of the time and I think the C-rig is a good tool to have in your sail box for winds over 15 mph. It would have been nice to see a few more boats on the water, but it was understandable that some skippers opted to stay home. With the big breeze and the St. Pete regatta just a week away, folks did not want to risk damage. I hope to see more out for next month's regatta. Baron Bremer will be RD for the April regatta.
