March Club Series Report The weather forecast for this First points race of the season looked pretty bad. Thunderstorms were called for for most of the day and they did not dissapoint. The wind was out of the SE which meant the short course in the lee of the dentist office. Joe Walter set up the tent for some shelter and John Bottensek made a course with the marks close enought to the tent that we could all sail relatively dry. Joe took the first win in the 12 heat regatta, but then the battle would be between Tony Rieck and Baron Bremer for most of the racing. These two traded 1sts and 2nds like they were baseball cards. "Need it, need it, got it got it." They managed to get 9 of the 12 bullets with Tony taking 5 to Baron's 4. Joe got the other 3 bullets. Tom Phillips was sailing well and put in several top 3 finishes, including a 2nd in the first heat Tom Germer seemed to be a little off his game and then had to pull out of racing in the 9 heat due to a broken shroud. Grant Ward was also sailing very well. Not that he was up front, but the distance between the leaders and the back of the fleet was very close. It just shows how much he has improved and how close everyone in the club is sailing now. In the end it came down to just one point for Baron to take home the win. Several other skippers had planned to make the regatta, but the weather changed their minds. It was a little bit of a shame as the rain managed to not give us too much trouble. But I do not blame them for wanting to stay home on this nasty day.
