March Club Series Report
Rieck Makes It Two In A Row

March 9, the new Club Points Series continued with Tony Rieck winning again. 11 skippers started the day in fluky winds. Several attempts were made to chase the wind, but it was a waste of effort. However, it did not take too long for the wind to finally settle in out of the ENE with a fair breese of about 6-8 kts. Tom Germer won the first of 10 heats, but then dropped his radio in the water while making an adjustment before the 2nd heat. It would take him 2 heats to dry it out and get back to racing. In the mean time Tom Phillips was making his mark on the regatta with just 6 points in 3 heats with Tony hot on his heals. Tony and Tom P would trade off the lead until the 7th heat when Tony took control. John Bottensek was quitely edging up in the standings while limping along the shore in his foot brace. John passed Tom P in the last heat to move into 2nd place by just 0.6 points and by 2.6 after the throwout.

Newcomer Larry Newcomb put in a couple of good heats before his boat broke and visiting Seawind skipper, Steve Buchanan, struggled a bit with the bigger, less forgiving 12 but still managed a 2nd place finish. It was his first time competing with the 12s and I think with a little practice he will be a force on the water. Grant Ward hung back most of the day until the last 2 heats when he finished strong. Jason Hastings and Murray McQuaid both sailed well and Murray was in 3rd place heat 3. Baron Bremer seemed to be off his game a little but still got a bullet and several 2nd place finished. Brett Biwer put it a stong performance as well.

The racing was very close with less than 6 points separating 2nd place from 5th. I look forward to the April regatta. I hope everyone will come out for it.
