October Club Series Report John Bottensek simply dominated in the final points race of the season to make it 4 wins and a 2nd place for his 5 races. Baron Bremer gave him run for it with 4 bullets in 12 heats, but he could not match John's 6 bullets and 5 second place finishes. His throw out was his one and only 3rd place. But there was some other great racing going on in this regatta. Tom Germer and Martin Gray raced to a tie for 3rd place on the day with Tom taking it on the tie breaker. Martin had radio trubles at one point and sat out a heat. Had he not had that set back he might have had his first podium finish of the year. At the back half of the field there was some very close racing as well. Grant Ward, Brrenda Pardee and John Garver played leap frog for most of the day. Brenda start out leading them and then John Garver worked his way in front, then Grant pulled ahead, then back to Brenda. With 2 more heats to go, they were all tied up with 56 points and they all had the same throw out. In the end and after the throw outs, John and Grant were tied at 60 and Brenda had 61. Oh so close. Grant had 4 very impressive 4th place finishes on the day, but John Garver would edge him out on the tie breaker due to his exciting 3rd palce finish where he lead the entire race until the final lead when an unfavorable wind shit for him allowed Bremer and Bottensek to sneak past him on the final leg. It was a lot of fun to watch the racing from the Race Directors spot. I had planned to race, but I hurt my back the day before and traded with Tom Germer who was going to be RD. All in all it was a great season of close racing. The turnouts might have been a little better and i for one could have controlled my temper better in one of the regattas, but I think we have all learned something, we have all improved our skills and tactics, and we have all shared a lot of fun together. Thanks you all for a great season and thanks to all who RDed and helped out in other ways.
