September Club Series Report
Walter gets his 2nd win of the season

Tom Phillips stepped up to be RD this month due to a foot injury. He had a challenging situation to deal with as the wind was shifting all over the place. He set out a triangle course with a down-wind finished that prooved to work well. Newcomer, Eric Clee was nervous about getting in the way of the rest of the skippers, but we said it was the best way for him to learn. He did quite well but after 4 heats decided to pull out and not press his luck. Baron Bremer got things started with a win in the first heat and Joe Walter was hanging close with a couple of 2nds and a bullet to begin the regatta. Bob Brown and Tony Rieck also were sailing at the front and each got a bullet. After four heats we had four different winners and a very tight grouping.

In the 5th heat, things got a little heated up at a windward mark between Tony Rieck and Joe Walter. The yelling was uncalled for and both skippers later apologized for it. Unfrotunately it was little too late for one skipper, Bob Brown, who decided it was not worth hanging around.

On that note, I personally send my apology to Bob. He drove a long way to sail with our group and we did not put ourselves in a good light at all.

Tom Germer sailed well with a number of 2nd place finishes that were ever so close to being bullets. John Garver struggled with a slipping backstay that kept making his topping lift snag. Changing out the backstay was a little too much work to do a lake side and so John retired after 8 heats and enjoyed watching the rest of the regatta from the comfort of his chair.

In the end it would be Joe Walter who would take the regatta win even though Baron and Tony got more bullets than he did. Joe's five 2nd place finishes made the difference.

Thanks to Tom Phillips for doing a great job as RD.
