Regatta Report and Results
Welcome skippers to the 2009 East
Coast 12-Meter Class National Championship Regatta in St. Augustine,
Florida November 11-14.
The Jacksonville Model Yacht Club along with the Florida EC-12
Association is proud and excited to be hosting this event in our
nation’s oldest city.
The venue for this year's National Championship is the lake at
the Comfort Suites World Golf Village. This award-winning hotel
is located just across I-95 from the Golfing Hall of Fame and just
minutes from downtown St. Augustine. All the rooms are suites and
some have full kitchens. There are two pools, one of them in-doors;
a full bar; and a wonderful continental breakfast, including waffles.
We will use their largest meeting room for the entire regatta. Besides
serving as our Awards Banquet dining room, it will also allow the
skippers to store their gear and fully-rigged boats throughout the
regatta. Its double doors open directly onto the patio deck overlooking
the racecourse. Setting up and taking down your boat each day will
be a snap.
US Sailing Judge, Ken Morrison, will conduct a Rules Q&A on
Wednesday afternoon. A Welcome Cocktail Reception will be on the
patio deck in the evening. There is a wealth of places to explore
for dinner—from the Murray Brothers' Caddy Shack, to the amazing
selection of diners, eateries, and fine restaurants in St. Augustine.
Or you can walk next door to the Shellfish Grill and sample their
award-winning, Maryland-style crab cakes. Your guests will have
plenty to see and do within minutes of the regatta venue during
the day, and we hope to rally a group together one evening for the
Ghost Trolley Tour through the Oldest City.
We are expecting the 52-boat limit to fill up fast. A qualified
list of skippers will have first choice on the entry list. EC-12
skippers from around the country will fill the remainder of the
fleet based on merit. Basically, you need to enter if you want to
sail. After the entry deadline, the fleet list will be posted, along
with the standby list.
The following pages provide the information you need to enter and
make your plans. I look forward to seeing you all there.
