The lake at James Island is wide open just about all the way around. It features two courses of over 500 feet long making it easy to set up long windward legs in varying wind directions. The shore is clear and flat with easy launching areas. There is great parking in the grass just feet from the shore. And of course the cabins make the whole experience that much better. Hotels Here are some of the closest at reasonable rates in no particular order. Any on Savannah Hwy in what is called West Ashley (river) are a short drive to the lake. Try to avoid Mount Pleasant and North Charleston (airport and convention area) as these areas are a bit further and you will have to deal with am traffic Thursday and Friday.
